Tom Matousek
Tom Matousek is a self-taught, award winning artist from Northern California. His early career began with mural painting and theater set design in the San Francisco Bay Area, with murals in the homes of professional athletes, high-end restaurants, and at Oracle Park, home of the San Francisco Giants, and set design winning him a Shellie Award in 2010. In 2012, Tom was named the artist in residence for the DDR Corporation, sending him around the country to create community art projects.
In 2013 and 2014 he was featured at the world's largest chalk festival in Pasadena, CA, as well as at Art Basel in Miami where BMW used his event to unveil their i8 concept car. In 2014, Tom met Disney Imagineer, Marty Sklar, at a Ryman Arts Foundation fundraiser where he showed several pieces of his art. This laid the groundwork for Tom officially signing on with Disney Fine Art. He then became an official artist with Chuck Jones Galleries, as well.
In 2018, Matousek was humbled and honored to have his portrait of Frederick Douglass used as the official logo for a bicentennial celebration honoring Douglass, sponsored by heads of the senate and house of representatives, along with the Frederick Douglass Foundation.
Perhaps Tom’s most notable creation is his painting of the Court of Angels, commissioned by Disneyland’s Club 33 in 2022 to commemorate Club 33’s 55th anniversary.
Tom has been a featured speaker at Facebook/Meta's headquarters in Palo Alto, CA, has taught workshops at the Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco, has been featured in multiple publications, including Art World News and Diablo Magazine, and has been interviewed on podcasts and radio programs regarding his art career. “Midlife Creativity,” a 2024 documentary by Soul Original Media about Matousek’s journey to becoming an artist can be viewed on Youtube.
Tom and his wife, Kris, are the owners of Panoply Fine Art which features Tom's art along with the art of several of his artist friends.
